On Feb 18th 2007, 68 people (42 of them Pakistanis) were killed after fires broke out aboard Samjhauta/Samjhota Express after two bombs went off. The Samjhota Express is a train that runs between Pakistan and India and on Feb 18 was returning to Pakistan. India has carried out half hearted investigations and in the aftermath even had the audacity to pin the blame on Pakistan. Subsequent investigations very clearly show that the bombings were the handiwork of Hindu extremist militants. Now one of the murderers has confessed to the Hindu terrorist network also confessing to involvement in other acts of terror. So, Mr. Obama and world ‘powers’, what are you going to do about this terror? I know exactly what. Nothing. Absolutely Nothing.
The Foreign Office, which has been pressing India for four years to unravel the conspiracy, renewed on Saturday its demand for bringing the culprits to justice in the wake of a confession by Swami Aseemanand, a leader of the Rashtriya Swayamsewak Sangh (RSS), that activists loyal to him had carried out the attack.
Sixty-eight people, 42 of them Pakistanis, were killed on Feb 18, 2007, when improvised explosive devices planted in two coaches of the Samjhota Express exploded. The train was returning to Lahore from Delhi.
Swami Aseemanand, who was arrested on Nov 19 last year for his alleged involvement in an explosion at a mosque in Hyderabad (India), confessed before a special CBI court in New Delhi last week that he and several RSS activists had a direct role in the planning, financing and execution of Malegaon, Samjhota Express, Ajmer and other blasts. The attack on the train came at a time when then foreign minister Khurshid Mehmood Kasuri was to hold talks with his Indian counterpart on taking their bilateral peace process forward, resolving the Kashmir dispute and signing a nuclear risk reduction accord.
Soon after the incident Delhi had accused elements in Pakistan of masterminding the attack. Weeks later Indian officials at a first meeting of the joint terror mechanism handed over to the Pakistani side what they claimed was a picture of the alleged perpetrator of the attack.
Aseemanand funded ’06 Malegaon bombings
In his chilling confessional, Aseemanand said: “In the (Valsad) meeting, I also suggested that… (since) a lot of Hindus visit the Ajmer shrine, we should carry out blast there so that Hindus get scared and stop going there. Moreover, I suggested that mostly Pakistanis travel in the Samjhauta Express, so it should also be bombed.”
Aseemanand confesses to his involvement in Samjhauta, Ajmer blasts
The magazine says that the swami, in the statement made in Hindi, told the magistrate that it was not just a rump group like the ultra-right wing organisation Abhinav Bharat that engineered the blasts, but RSS national executive member Indresh Kumar, who allegedly handpicked and financed some pracharaks (volunteers), also took part in carrying out the terror attacks.
Swami Aseemanand’s chilling confession
Over the next five hours, in an unprecedented move, Aseemanand laid bare an explosive story about the involvement of a few Hindutva leaders, including himself, in planning and executing a series of gruesome terror attacks.
According to him, it was not Muslim boys but a team of RSS pracharaks who exploded bombs in Malegaon in 2006 and 2008, on the Samjhauta Express in 2007, in Ajmer Sharif in 2007 and Mecca Masjid in 2007. Apart from the tragic loss of innocent lives in these blasts, what makes this admission doubly disturbing is that, in keeping with their habitual practice, scores of Muslim boys were wrongly picked up by the Andhra Pradesh and Maharashtra Police, in collusion with sections of the Intelligence Bureau, and tortured and jailed for these blasts — accentuating the shrill paranoia about a vast and homegrown Islamist terror network. Many of these boys were acquitted after years in jail; some are still languishing inside, their youth and future destroyed, their families reduced to penury.
