Is x = 3 the answer?

The problem is

What is the answer?

Working through we get,

So, x = 3 is the answer. Right? Well, not so fast. Let us plug back x = 3 into the original question. What happens to the second fraction?

The denominator becomes 9 – 4(3) + 3 = 9 – 12 + 3 = 0  and that leaves us with a divide by zero situation.  So x = 3 does  not satisfy the original question.  Probably a good example of why the answer should be plugged back into the original question to see if the answer still holds true.
