Majority of foreign graduates flunk UHS exams

LAHORE: Hardly 10 per cent of the Pakistani students who have done their MBBS and BDS from 19 foreign countries have got through the exam conducted by the National Examination Board to test their ability before awarding them licence to practice in the country.

The NEB was constituted by the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council to make the graduates from other countries prove their mettle,

Jinnah Hospital’s Professor of Dermatology and Dermatologic Surgery Azim Jahangir Khan said there was a need to create awareness among the parents not to send their children to such countries.

“The parents must check with the PMDC before sending their children to the countries where the standard of medical education is poor,” he said.

Pentagon backtracks after Gates ‘admits’ Blackwater operating in Pakistan

The Pentagon has gone into damage control mode after Defense Secretary Robert Gates appeared to confirm that security contractor Blackwater is operating in Pakistan.

In the interview, which took place Thursday, Gates was asked “about another issue that has come up and again … about the phone security companies [sic] that have been operating in Iraq, in Afghanistan and now in Pakistan. Xe International, formerly known as Blackwater or Data Corp. Under what rules are they operating here in Pakistan?”

Well, they’re operating as individual companies here in Pakistan, in Afghanistan and in Iraq,” Gates replied. “If they’re contracting with us or with the State Department here in Pakistan, then there are very clear rules set forth by the State Department and by ourselves.”

Pakistan players demand hockey World Cup boycott

I think it is a really bad idea to contemplate boycotting hockey world cup to protest India’s IPL drama. Who benefits by us boycotting the World Cup? Neither is Hockey’s governing body FIH going to move the world cup out of India because of Pakistan’s absence, nor are the other countries going to come to Pakistan’s support? In the end, we would end up hurting our own hockey. It won’t hurt India one bit. Quite the contrary. If it were a bilateral hockey series or just another hockey tournament, then it would be sensible to not send the team. But, when there is a major tournament like Olympics, World Cup or Champions Trophy, then we serve no purpose by a boycott of these major competitions. Pakistan are slotted to take on India in the opener of the World Cup. Best revenge would be to go to India and thrash India on indian soil in front of indian crowds. Go to the hostile territory and wallop them on their own turf.

Human “bed-warmers” at Holiday Inn
Seriously, who would want someone warming up their bed by laying in it? Not me, at least.
